"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16 NIV)
I used to think that Christianity are for wimps. They are so easy to manipulate because they never lie, they don't return evil for evil, if you punch them in the face they'd come back for more with the other cheek. That is why I never wanted to be one because I thought Christians were losers.
Then I met Jesus. He turned water into wine. He healed the sick, raised the dead, he spoke with authority and scolded the Pharisees. Even the winds obey Him and the demons shudder at the sight of Him. He was a winner even in death. He is the coolest, the greatest, the best of the best. He died but not because they took his life but rather he willingly gave it. He was the ultimate winner and at the cross He won His ultimate victory and then the unthinkable: He credited His winnings to us.
Jesus changed my perspective on being a Christian. I learned that if I am in Christ, I don't turn into a loser but rather a conqueror. In fact, in Him, I am more than a conqueror. In Christ, I am not helpless but instead, I can do all things. In Him I'm sent like a sheep to a wolves' world but because of Him, I'm no ordinary sheep. In fact, in Christ we can be the baaaaadest sheep the world will ever meet. Because we're called to be cunning and shrewd like a snake but also innocent like a dove. Innocent doesn't mean ignorant; innocent doesn't mean unaware of the wolves's scheme; It is just that innocent doesn't waste time on evil but when confronted by it, has enough shrewdness to handle it.
If you have given your life to Christ, don't you ever think that you have been called to be a loser and somebody else's punching bag. Know instead that the bible says, if you are in Christ, you already are a winner. The loser is gone and the winner has come. 2 cor 5:17
