He probably doesn't believe in you either."
Heard that from a preacher one time.
When he said it, it came across funny. Now that I wrote it, i know - not so much.
But here's my point.
Where did we get this idea that God feeds off from our belief in Him like some insecure being whose self-worth depends on whether or not his creation puts their faith in Him?
Oh, maybe in the movie MERLIN. I remember watching that film on cable tv and on the last part, the village folks decided to stop believing in their 'god' (who was a witch btw) and as a result, she became powerless and eventually disappeared helplessly into thin air.
But that's fiction (and in my opinion, not even a good movie to watch). Here is what's real. Jesus is God. Whether we believe it, agree with it and accept it or not, He is Just fine.
It is not His loss when people choose to not be on His side, He is God, has always been God and will always be God.
The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. (Matthew 16:1 NIV)
These religious leaders weren't really interested in a sign, All they were interested in was to test Jesus hoping he won't pass and so they can finally get rid of Him.
But Jesus saw right through the deceit and responded accordingly, "you ask for a sign? None will be given to you except what has already been given." In other words, stop looking for another sign, you have been given enough sign already. You don't need another sign, what you need is to allow what has already been shown you to activate your faith.
Do you find yourself at times responding to God like a pharisee - looking for a sign not to believe but to get rid?
Are there times when you no longer honestly inquire but shift gears into seeking for something to support your unwillingness to believe?
Do you find yourself always asking for another sign when He has already given you so many? Nothing wrong with asking for a sign but the real issue here is 'why?'. Are you asking because you want to believe or are you asking so that you can get rid? Because if you are, (asking to get rid) Jesus already gave you an answer: "none more will be given except was already been given." - His word.
There is a time for everything. A season under the sun.
Maybe today, your season for asking a sign is over and it is now time for you to believe and obey.

the last part is striking! :)
his Word is enaf!
Thanks for the reminder that God is sovereign. I love your last three words in this post. Believe and Obey. Reminds me of a favorite hymn declaring our faith: Trust and Obey...for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. -Lem Rosellon, Arla Diner
@Strongerthanseasons, thanks. His word indeed is enough. I keep reminding myself that especially when my circumstances says otherwise.
Hi Lem, I'm not familiar with that hymn but i sure like it! Will google it :) thanks.
